Arrowsmith Program for Adults Recovering from Addiction

Empowering Lives

Empowering Lives is an initiative of Teen Challenge Qld. We provide the Arrowsmith Program in the Teen Challenge Rehabilitation centres. This program helps strengthening cognitive areas that may have been impacted by addiction or have been an underlying learning difficulties. Addressing these cognitive issues, helps to create a more positive trajectory for young people's lives.

Empowering lives is involved in a research study, working with Teen Challenge Queensland and Teen Challenge Tasmania to see the impact that participating in Arrowsmith had on men and women recovering from addiction.  The results were very encouraging and can be seen below.

How Arrowsmith Works

The brain’s ability to change and our understanding of the principles of neuroplasticity is what allows Arrowsmith to change brains and transform lives.

Arrowsmith’s Cognitive Exercises, tapping into the brain's neuroplastic nature, strengthen neural pathways changing our students’ ability to learn to read, write, do math, comprehend, reason, think critically, be empathetic and engage in meaningful ways.

By addressing the source of the difficulty, our students improve their ability to perform complex tasks. Students are able to redefine their future, living with greater independence, confidence, and sense of accomplishment. Healthy self-confidence based on real-world competence develops.

Arrowsmith has the neuroplasticity of the brain and our students’ lifelong successes at the forefront of our program.

About Teen Challenge

Since 1971, Teen Challenge QLD has helped thousands of young people overcome addiction, abuse and other life-controlling problems, giving them a second chance at life.

Substance abuse is one of the most prevalent issues facing this generation. It knows no socioeconomic boundaries.

Our services aim to eliminate self-destructive behaviour by meeting the need of the whole person, not only dealing with the addiction, but also rebuilding their self-image, work ethic, spiritual awareness and relationships.
